The best OLED gaming monitor used to be difficult to find – but the last twelve months have seen a decent selection of monitors released that will certainly make the selection easier.

OLED monitors are excellent for those looking for the best visual gaming experience for both consoles and PCs. Why? Well, it comes down to their ‘infinite’ contrast achieved by self-illuminating pixels. More contrast essentially makes images look more life-like, with deep blacks and bright whites, which can really showcase your games in all their glory.

Many of the best OLED monitors are also some of the best HDMI 2.1 monitors, so expect to see some excellent 120hz/ 144hz 4K displays on this list.

We’re going to be covering the best budget, curved ultrawide, QD-OLED, and fastest response time OLED gaming monitors and helping you distinguish between each of them, so you can grab the right monitor for you. That being said, if you want to cut straight to the chase, we’d say that the best OLED gaming monitor for most people is the excellent Gigabyte AORUS FO48U.

Read on for our other top picks, which we update constantly with the latest products, and why we think they should also be worthy of your consideration.

Pros
  • 4K display
  • 99ppi
Cons
  • Expensive

The Gigabyte Aorus FO48U is arguably one of the best large-screen OLED monitors on the market today. At a massive 48 inches, it’s almost akin to some of the best OLED TVs and packs a 120hz refresh rate, 1ms response time, and 4K resolution.

This monitor supports FreeSync Premium, which should ensure smooth gameplay and reduce screen tearing. It also features a host of other gaming-orientated features, including a Black Equalizer mode, which can help you see more details in the dark without overexposing the brights, and Aim Stabilizer Sync which helps to reduce motion blur.

In terms of color, it’s impressive too, and features 10-bit color, with 98% DCI-P3 and 130% sRGB. While this may not be the best monitor for competitive gaming (as you’d want to go a lot smaller for that) it is an excellent OLED choice for a more immersive and cinematic gaming experience.

If you’re planning on doubling this up as a work monitor, we’d probably advise against it though, as you won’t find tilt, pivot, or swivel anywhere here, unless you invest in one of the best monitor arms for ultrawide monitors that is.

But as a real showstopper for epic gaming sessions, you really can’t go wrong with this beast.

Best QD-OLED gaming monitor – Alienware AW3423DW

Pros
  • Huge curved display
  • Fast refresh rate
Cons
  • Could be brighter

The Alienware AW3423DW is the best curved QD-OLED gaming monitor out there, and well worth a spot in our best curved gaming monitors.

There’s an absolute wealth of features to talk about with this monitor, so we’ll start with the one we think is the most important. There’s a Quantum Dot OLED panel driving this monitor which is loaded with a 175 Hz refresh rate. Perhaps one of the most visually immersive and engaging displays to game on, the ultra-clear and defined visuals on show speak for themselves.

If you’re a gamer who enjoys immersive, graphically intense games, this is the monitor for you. The 34-inch display packs so much into it thanks to the 4K resolution and 1800R curvature, and the brightness is averaged out at 250 cd/m2. The stylishly slim bezels also help to achieve this immersion. With a minimum response time of 0.1ms and an average response time of 3.3ms, this is perfect for casual gamers who aren’t wholly reliant on their timing and reflexes in the games they play.

The only problem with the Alienware AW3423DW is the lack of HDMI 2.1 – making this monitor not optimal for next-gen console gaming, but since many Xbox Series X and PS5 titles can’t be played optimally in ultrawide, you shouldn’t miss it too much.

Best fast response time OLED gaming monitor – ASUS ROG Swift 41.5-inch

ASUS ROG Swift 41.5-inch

Screen size

41.5-inch

Refresh rate

Pros
  • 0.1ms response time
  • Great brightness for OLED display
Cons
  • Only tilt adjustment on the stand

It’s not called the ‘Swift’ for no reason. The ASUS ROG Swift 41.50-inch is the fastest response time OLED monitor out there with a blisteringly quick 0.1ms response time, with low input lag and low latency.

It’s also Nvidia G-Sync compatible which, while expected at this level of monitor, will help to reduce unwanted screen tear and stuttering and ensure smooth gameplay.

The ASUS ROG Swift has a 400 cd/m2 nits brightness rating, which isn’t the absolute brightest on the list, but is more than enough even in well-lit rooms. Combine this with matte Micro-texture coating and you won’t get any glare either. Overall, for most people, this would be a good choice for an OLED gaming monitor, coming in at around the same size as the excellent LG C2 TV, but being versatile enough to use in a gaming setup.

The only slight downside is that there’s no RGB lighting with this display…but that may also be a good thing depending on your taste! Read WePC’s monitor expert, Charlie Noon, full ASUS Rog Swift review here.

Best ultrawide OLED gaming monitor – Corsair Xeneon Flex

Corsair Xeneon Flex

Screen size

45in

Resolution

3440 × 1440

Response time

0.1ms

Refresh rate

240Hz

Pros
  • High refresh rate
  • Huge ultra-wide display
Cons
  • Could be brighter

The Corsair Xeneon Flex is evidence that technology will likely never stop evolving. There’s no shadow of a doubt that it is one of the best ultrawide OLED gaming monitors thanks to the vibrant and fast display panel that – as the name suggests – can flex.

The 45-inch display is powered by a 3440 x 1440 pixel OLED panel – showcasing an ultra-wide aspect ratio with deep blacks and a 1,500,000:1 contrast ratio.

Alongside that, HDR allows for a 1,000nit peak brightness which is protected by a non-glare filter. If you’re an immersive gamer seeking the best experience in a simulation or atmospheric open-world games – this is the monitor we’d recommend.

The gimmick – if it can be called that – is that the monitor can dynamically morph between being a flat ultrawide, to being a curved ultrawide. The maximum range of motion is 800R – which is impressive considering that it must be physically bent to achieve this.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are OLED monitors good for gaming?

OLED monitors are recommended for an immersive gaming experience that benefits from high color contrast and atmospheric lighting. Competitive gamers may find the dynamic range of colors off-putting during intense gameplay.

Are OLED monitors fast?

OLED monitors tend to have high-refresh rates thanks to the panel not having a backlight, instead each pixel emits its own light – making fast changes in color possible.

Is OLED better than 4K LED for gaming?

Both deliver fantastic viewing experiences, delivering improvements over 1080p. However, OLED also boasts better viewing angles and generally emits lower levels of blue light.

Does OLED have 144Hz?

Yes, there are a number of OLED monitors that are 144Hz. In our selection, the ASUS ROG Swift 41.5-inch is a close match at 138Hz.

Is an OLED monitor better than a non-OLED monitor?

In terms of crispness, color, and display, an OLED monitor has the edge over a non-OLED monitor. However, with displays like DisplayHDR 1000 on the market, the gap between OLED and non-OLED is certainly narrowing. It also depends on what kind of games you’re playing. If you’re into horror games like the new Dead Space Remake, an OLED monitor is ideal for reaching those true blacks.
