Steam’s Next Fest has just kicked off and already the medieval multiplayer title Warhaven is topping the charts. However, it isn’t all good news for the game’s developers, Nexon, as while the community are enjoying the game overall, it still looks like there’s a long way to go.
While on the surface Nexon’s game is doing well on Steam, one look at the Warhaven Reddit page would paint a completely different picture. One user by the name of No-Faithlessness6298 took to Reddit saying, “Who else just f**king hates the new playtest?” In the post, they noted changes to the game’s controls, ability removal and the changing of other map mechanics were the leading cause for their disappointment with the latest iteration of the game. Other players noted that the change in speed to the game is a major issue with one player saying, “Everything is just sluggish.”
These changes seem to have negatively affected the game’s combat as well, as another player noted that “the new combat changes are ABYSMAL.” This opinion wasn’t restricted only to veteran playtesters either, as a new player to the game said in their six hours of playing that the “combat feels extremely off.”
A number of other issues with the game’s change to smoke and lens flares were brought up but this criticism wasn’t just limited to the game’s Reddit page, as the Warhaven Steam forums are now populated with negative views on the game.
One player, Nerazmus, noted that the game felt “painfully mediocre.” In their post, they noted that “the core principles [of Warhaven] are just all kinds of bad.” They continued by saying that the game was “stiff, sluggish and doesn’t flow well.” Despite these critiques of the game’s recent demo and playtest the full game isn’t set to release until Q3 2023. This should allow Nexon some time to address existing players’ concerns.
Other indie games have been blowing up on Steam outside of the Next Fest event as BattleBit Remastered is pushing towards 100,000 players on Steam. If you’re a fan of hack-and-slash freerunning games you might want to check out Ghostrunner as it is currently at an all-time-low price at Steam – but not for long.
