Psychonauts 2 and Brutal Legend developer Double Fine has confirmed its future plans following the release of the psychic adventure earlier this year.

In a blog post to fans on Fig this week, the studio confirmed it was “already splitting up into various teams and starting different projects that we think you’ll enjoy.” While it didn’t give any solid details on what those projects would entail, it did say “Every game is a chance to explore new ideas, new visual styles or gameplay, emotions, and more.”

The studio also mentioned the lessons it learned through Psychonauts 2‘s lengthy development, which started as a crowdfunded project all the way back in 2015. “Psychonauts 2 was a chance to revisit and reimagine the classic that launched our studio into the future. It was a long process but we like to think the pay off was pretty great. We stuck the landing.”

Of course, there’s still a few Psychonauts 2-related things for Double Fine to wrap up. “Our focus moves to these new projects but we’re also intensely tracking incoming support tickets sent our way and working with distributors to get folks their rewards as soon as our strange world allows”. There’s also the small matter of the game’s making-of documentary by 2 Player Productions. That’s sure to be a fascinating watch when it arrives. Keep your eyes peeled for that.

We very much enjoyed Raz’s adventure, with Psychonauts 2 even making it onto our best ten games of this year. You can check out Josh’s original review right over here.
