The PSVR 2 price has been confirmed, and with the launch in just a few days, we’ve covered all the latest information on the VR headsets cost.

PSVR 2 marks the second iteration of Sony’s VR offering – and looks to build on the formidable success of the original PSVR unit. You can read more in-depth on our comparison of the two here. However, According to latest sales figures, the PSVR has shipped more than 5 million units worldwide since it launched in 2016.

You can read more about the PSVR 2 release date here, which launches alongside a Horizon Call of the Mountain bundle. In fact, we’ve recently had the opportunity to review the PSVR 2 and tested out the new Horizon game too. Our largest concern with the upcoming headset wasn’t an issue with the performance or quality of the product, but rather how much it’s set to cost on launch.

Without further ado, let’s find out the PSVR 2 price.

PSVR 2 price confirmed

According to a tweet from the official PlayStation account, we’re going to see the PSVR 2 costing: $549.99 / €599.99 / £529.99 / Â¥74,980.

Sony has every right to be confident in their product – and the sales figures from the original PSVR clearly shows there is a strong market for VR on their console. Spending time with the headset proved that, however when it launches on February 22nd we’ll be able to gauge the responses of wider audiences.

When we look at early PSVR pricing, it cost $399, which is in line with Oculus (Meta) Quest 2 today, which can be picked up for £399 from many retailers.

We’d fully expect, as per last time, for Sony to create launch bundles at a much higher price point – likely including a number of smaller VR titles. These could well add at least another $50 on to the price.

One of these games is Horizon Call of the Mountain – a new Horizon game developed specifically for the PSVR2.

“Created for PlayStation VR2, this unique experience has been designed to push hardware technology, innovation, and gameplay. The stunning visuals and brand-new PS VR2 Sense controllers give a new meaning to being fully immersed into the world of Horizon,” Jan-Bart Van Beek, Studio Director and Studio Art & Animation Director, Guerrilla, writes on the PS blog.

PSVR 2 confirmed features

We’ve known for a while that the PSVR2 was coming, as Sony has not been shy about revealing inbound upgrades and features – thanks to regular blog posts.

“Our goal is to create a headset that will not only become an attractive part of your living room decor, but will also keep you immersed in your game world, to the point where you almost forget you are using a headset or controller,” writes Hideaki Nishino, Senior Vice President, Platform Experience on the Sony blog.

For starters, the PSV2 will have See-Through mode – thanks to the unit’s embedded front cameras. These allow you to check your surroundings while wearing the headset.

This already happens with the Oculus (Meta) Quest 2, and as someone who has spent a lot of time in VR, it certainly comes in handy – especially when adjusting your play area.

On that, the play area for PS VR2 can now be fully customised by using the PS VR2 Sense controllers and the embedded cameras.

Elsewhere, a new broadcast feature allows you to film yourself while you’re playing – simply by connecting a PS5 HD Camera to the console.

Display wise, you’ll be able to enjoy content displayed in 4000 x 2040 HDR video format (2000 x 2040 per eye) with 90Hz/120Hz frame rate. Again, it’s worth noting that the Oculus Quest 2 already supports 120Hz in some instances – despite it initially launching at 72Hz.

“PS VR2 development kits are already in the hands of game creators, and we are excited for what they’ll come up with to truly make virtual reality a remarkable experience for gamers,” Nishino writes.

There’s no evidence to suggest the original PSVR is discontinued, especially given that it’s sold more than 5m units since it launched in 2016.
