Nintendo has announced plans for a new event to take place in the US later this year, entitled Nintendo Live 2023.
The event itself is based on similar live events that the Switch maker has previously held in Japan, but will be bringing to the West for the first time later this year when it kicks off in Seattle, Washington in the US in September 2023.
We’re promised “fun gameplay, live stage performances, exciting gaming tournaments, memorable photo ops and more.” While specifics are still to be announced, the event is being touted as a ‘for all-ages celebration’ – meaning there’ll be plenty for both hardcore Nintendo fans, and even those “new to the world of Nintendo”.
Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser provides a statement on the event via the press release – saying “Fans of all ages can currently experience the unique games, characters and worlds of Nintendo on Nintendo Switch, but we want to expand that scope with a new experience. With Nintendo Live 2023, we’re giving attendees a chance to celebrate together with family, friends and the broader Nintendo community in the spirit of fun and creating long-lasting memories.”
More details on the event – including how to attend, and the specific timing – are said to be revealed later, but for now fans are left to speculate on what might make an appearance at the show. Given the timing, it’s possible that this may act as the place Nintendo may make any summer announcements it may have originally intended to make at E3 2023, before that event was officially cancelled last month.
Of course, the timing comes very nicely for Nintendo – off the back of the enormously successful Super Mario Bros Movie which broke many box office records over the Easter weekend.
