Ubisoft has offered fans a deep dive into the upcoming Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope via a special Showcase presentation.
Creative Director Davide Soliani hosted the fifteen-minute broadcast last night, which included gameplay details, plot, music and more. The Mario & Rabbid combined universe is under a new threat from a new dark entity. Known as Cursa, it’s been trying to sap the energy from the world. As a result, its sent its minions to capture the Luma/Rabbid hybrids known as Sparks, and it’s up to you to stop them and save the galaxy.
You’ll travel to different planets, which will be freely explorable. They’ll have plenty of weird characters to meet along the way and many with missions for you to take on. Some of these characters will even join you on your journey, including new playable characters Bowser, Rabbid Rosalina and Edge. As before, combat will take place on turn-based battlefields, where you’ll use each characters unique skills to your advantage. New for this entry is the use of Sparks, who’ll provide an additional tactical boost and powers depending on how they’re used.
Later in the presentation, Soliani also revealed three of the names behind the game’s music. It’s a trio of heavy hitters, starting off with the return of GoldenEye composer Grant Kirkthorpe. He’s returning from the previous game, but is also joined by Gareth Coker and Yoko Shimomura. The former has worked on games like Halo Infinite and the Ori series, while Shimomura has an enormous list of gaming music credits to her name including the Kingdom Hearts series and Street Fighter II.
