It appears as though even those who opt to buy a physical copies of the upcoming third person action adventure Star Wars Jedi Survivor will be required to download additional data before they can play.
Users on the game’s Reddit made the discovery after an image, purportedly from Mighty Ape, an online retail company in New Zealand, that showed physical copies of Jedi Survivor printed with a ‘Download Required’ warning on the box for both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of the game.
It’s not currently known exactly how much players will have to download at the time of writing – as EA hasn’t commented on this discovery yet – though the Jedi Survivor preload size is apparently clocking in at around 150GB total, which is larger than the average size of a Blu Ray disk. However, the file size is apparently significantly less on the Xbox Series X|S, reportedly clocking in at only 44GB. It also wouldn’t be too out of place in modern games mind, especially when taking into consideration things like a Day One patch or similar.
Still, it’s disappointing news for anyone buying the physical game in the hopes they could keep their download to a minimum – for example, those on limited or metered connections. But from what we’ve seen of the game so far, it looks like there’ll be plenty for fans to get stuck into when the game arrives later this week.
Star Wars Jedi Survivor is the follow up to 2019’s Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order, and will continue the story of Cal Kestis as he travels across the galaxy to restore the Jedi Order with robotic buddy BD-1. Along the way, he’ll be reuniting with allies like Nightsister Merrin and Cere Junda – as well as meeting some new Star Wars Jedi Survivor characters.
Star Wars Jedi Survivor will be available on April 29 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
