Bethesda’s Todd Howard has revealed that the company has an idea for a Fallout 5, but we shouldn’t expect it any time soon.
Howard was speaking to the IGN Unfiltered podcast when the subject of the post-apocalyptic RPG series came up. With the studio currently busy with Starfield and The Elder Scrolls VI as officially announced projects, the team already has a lot on their plate right now. But Howard wasn’t ruling out a return to the wasteland altogether.
“I don’t see… Look, Fallout‘s really part of our DNA here. We’ve worked with other people from time to time – I can’t say say what’s gonna happen. You know, we have a one-pager on Fallout 5, what we want to do.” (A one-pager, for reference, usually refers to the overall outline of a game. Usually, these include a broad concept, its plot, target audience and unique selling points.)
However, given the studio’s current schedule, Howard couldn’t commit so far as to make the game official in any way. “Again, if I could wave my hand and have [Fallout 5] out – you know, I’d like to find a way to accelerate what we do, but I can’t really say today or commit to anything, [and/or] what’s going to happen when.”
As established earlier, Bethesda have a lot on their plate since being bought by Xbox earlier this year for $7.5 billion USD. The Elder Scrolls VI was still “years” away from a reveal even back in 2020. Starfield, meanwhile, will launch in November 2022. Given that game will be an Xbox exclusive, it’s reasonable to assume Fallout 5Â will be too, but it sounds it’ll still be some time before we find out.
In the meantime, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition lands tomorrow on Xbox, PlayStation and PC.
