EA has announced that women will be joining the roster in EA Sports PGA Tour, which includes the LGPA Tour.

In a statement regarding the addition, EA said that it “has done a great job in continuing to expand female representation.”

It also expanded on the LGPA tour specifically, saying that it “will feature a wide breadth of women’s
golfing representation.”

In partnering with the Ladies Professional Golf Association, EA is also adding the Amundi Evian Championship to EA Sports PGA Tour. That is one of the five major women’s championships, held at the Evian Resort Golf Club—which will also be in the game.

Jin Young Ko, the winner of the 2019 Amundi Evian Championship said, “Having us included in this game is a great opportunity to reach fans all around the world.” She added, “I can’t wait to see how it turns out—and I can’t wait to play the game!”

EA has scheduled EA Sports PGA Tour for release in 2022, on next-gen consoles, and it uses the Frostbite engine. It looks very pretty indeed.

The last game in the PGA Tour series was Rory McIlroy PGA Tour, in 2015. Reviewing the game for VideoGamer, Brett Phipps said that it “continues the trend of well-known sports franchises making disappointing, threadbare debuts on new consoles.” Ouch.

It is interesting to note that no star golfer is fronting the new game. The series began, in 1990 as, simply, PGA Tour Golf, before taking up the Tiger Woods name—which it held every year up until 2013. Rory McIlroy’s tenure only lasted that one game, and now it’s back to the old style.
