The Destiny 2 Legendary Shard glitch that allowed players to farm absurd amounts of the in-game resource has now been patched by Bungie mere hours after it was discovered by the player base. If you’ve somehow stayed off the internet in the past few hours, this recently discovered exploit essentially allowed you to gain an infinite amount of ‘Guardian Games’ gear from 2022 in exchange for Glimmer, which you could then dismantle to your heart’s content.
If you were lucky enough to make use of this bug, then you may not need to know what the best ways to get Legendary Shards are any longer. Unfortunately, those that weren’t able to log in to their accounts during this time will not be able to make use of this scheme any more due to the developer’s prompt reaction.
It’s worth noting, though, that the exploit in question only worked if you earned a particular piece of gear from last year’s Guardian Games. If you did, then you would’ve been able to earn Legendary Shards by heading to the Armor section in your Collections tab. You could’ve then selected the Events category where you would have had to look for the newest Guardian Games class armor item.
For Warlocks, it was an item called Medal Bond, while Titans and Hunters would’ve had to look for the ‘Mark of Medal’ and ‘Medal Mantle’ respectively. Each of these items could be purchased for only 777 Glimmer, however, dismantling each gear piece would earn you 250 Glimmer back in addition to the four Legendary Shards it gave each time.
This allowed a large number of community members to stock up on this important resource needed for several in-game activities, like purchasing Exotics from Xur, buying faction armor and weapons from vendors, etc. Dismantling gear also increases your vendor level with Banshee-44, the Tower gunsmith, so may have been able to quickly reset your rank with them as well.
Alas, Bungie has decided to put an early stop to the Destiny 2 Legendary shard glitch after releasing a quick patch for it.
