Destiny 2 developer Bungie has sent out a notice to all cheaters using third-party peripherals that they will be “issuing warnings, restrictions, and/or bans appropriately” upon detection of these devices. This decision comes as part of their latest initiative to make their popular FPS entry more enjoyable as the community had long become frustrated with this rampant form of cheating.

Although discouraging exploits within the game isn’t as simple as finding out how to get Exotic Ciphers or how to generate Orbs of Power, it’s still one of the most important aspects that the developers can address since this directly affects Destiny 2’s ecosystem.

For this reason, the developers have now enacted “the following policy on any form of external aides”: “Bungie embraces the use of external accessibility aids that enable an experience the game designers intended but will take action, including bans, on people who abuse these tools specifically to gain an advantage over other players.”

The ‘external accessibility aides’ being referenced in the new security measure include any “device or input that augments the player’s ability to control the game” beyond what it normally provides. The developers would then list “programmable controllers, keyboard and mouse adapters, advanced macros, or automation via artificial intelligence” as some examples of peripherals that would go directly against this policy.

However, Bungie would go on to note that “simply using an accessibility aide to play Destiny 2, where a player could not play otherwise, would not be a violation of this policy.” Conversely, players that use these “tools to mitigate challenges all players face, such as reducing recoil or increasing aim assist, would be a violation.”

The community has predictably responded positively to Bungie’s latest blog post containing this new anti-cheating policy. But since it was just introduced recently, only time will tell if it will indeed be effective in discouraging hackers from using these exploits.
