To mark today’s launch of Dead Island 2, the game is teaming up with UK life insurance company DeadHappy to offer a special ‘Deathwish’ option on its life insurance policies.

The unusual offering – costing £8000 – will not only cover the funeral expenses of the person who takes the Deathwish option, but also will pay to “send your mates to the real LA for a zombie cocktail fuelled party before it goes to hell! A wake to end all wakes, in your honour.” It should be noted, that this is only an option to a policy – ie: there’s no legal way to enforce them – but the idea is that it gives your loved ones a record of what the holder’s wishes are and an instruction should the worst happen.

Of course, there’s an appropriately themed video to break all this down in the theme of the game, which you can check out for yourself down below. As previously mentioned – the option itself is being offered by UK insurance company DeadHappy – who are a company “focused on changing attitudes to passing away and promoting positive ways to remember loved ones”.

It’s certainly one of the more unique game tie-ins we’ve heard of – but the Dead Island series is no stranger to unusual marketing, whether that’s been from its well-remembered trailers or other methods.

Following a twelve year wait, the game itself has finally released today on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5 and PC – and in our Dead Island 2 review, we said “Dead Island 2 is everything you’re expecting it to be; non-stop zombie killing with plenty of over-the-top characters and vibrant locales, which is everything the first offered but on a much bigger scale.”
