He went on to call it a “true reflection of the future of our world.” Developers have described New Atlantis as a “true melting pot with citizens from every race, creed, and ethnicity.”

Early footage from the Bethesda games showcase showed off the sheer scale of the city, with devs stating that New Atlantis is one of four main cities that players can explore in Starfield. What is New Atlantis in Starfield?

New Atlantis is located on Jemison, a planet named after the first black female NASA astronaut. Based in the Alpha Centauri solar system, planet Jemison has sibling planets Gagarin, Olivas, and Chawla orbiting the same star. New Atlantis is one of four major explorable cities in the upcoming space-exploration RPG Starfield.

As the capital city of the United Colonies, New Atlantis boasts of a considerable military presence and will certainly play a major role in the story of Starfield. Design director Emil Pagilarulo considers the United Colonies as “the most powerful established military and political faction in the game.” Their law-and-order philosophy keeps things civil so don’t mess with the peace in this imperial city.

The city also has the headquarters of Constellation, a team of space explorers devoted to discovery. With Starfield’s main storyline featuring Constellation heavily, I’m certain that we’ll be heading to New Atlantis early on in the game. Unlocking one of their doors with your smartwatch implies a strong connection to this faction. Starfield NPCs like Matteo and companions like Vasco the robot mean that Constellation is going to stick around.

In the words of Production Director Angela Browder, “It’s the biggest city we’ve ever made, not just in size but also in the amount of custom art, crowds, and quests,” so it’s safe to say that your time in New Atlantis certainly isn’t going to leave you short of things to keep you busy.

Starfield New Atlantis locations

The city is packed with striking details, right from the tech park-esque hubs, futuristic buildings, and several districts to explore. It looks like a city ripe with mysteries, information, and rewards from side quests. You’ll get to explore vast buildings and skyscrapers with residents of all kinds to gain insight into the city’s functioning. We currently don’t know how much of New Atlantis can be explored. We’ve seen the character exploring some main hub areas so be prepared for anything.

The city also has a spaceport and the Interstellar Inn. The latter is a reference to the award-winning film that weaves time dilation into its space narrative. New Atlantis also features a hulking central bank called Galbank. Terrabrew Coffee is a popular coffee place in the city that could grant your character status effect buffs. You’ll be able to travel around this city with the help of New Atlantis Transit. NAT is the public transport system that covers New Atlantis’ biggest hotspots.

That covers just about everything we know about New Atlantis for now. The Bethesda Showcase showed an incredible amount of content, inspiring confidence in gamers across the world. With Starfield factions like the Starfield Crimson Fleet and Starfield Ryujin Industries, players can expect their choices to ripple across Starfield’s 1000+ planets. Xbox and Bethesda seem fairly confident of their labour of love and this gameplay preview lends it even more credibility. Starfield looks incredible on an Xbox Series X.
