It’s likely that a Starfield Mars planet guide will come in handy. While we still know fairly little about the campaign, the presence and importance of the Red Planet in-game is a likely reality, and plenty of players will likely be paying it a visit.
In this Starfield Mars planet guide, we’ll go over everything we know about the planet so far, its features, and its points of interest. This way, you’ll be well prepared long before the Starfield release date arrives.
What is Mars in Starfield
Mars in Starfield is a colonised planet with heavy mining and industrial focuses. Just like in real life, Mars is still a vast red desert. It has a thin carbon dioxide atmosphere, low temperatures, vast dust storms, and a gravity field a little over one third of Earth’s. There has seemingly been little to no terraforming efforts on the planet at large so far.

Mars is currently under the jurisdiction of the Starfield United Colonies faction, to which it provides a wealth of raw minerals and manufactured goods.
Mars main features
There are a few main features to explore on Mars that we currently know of. The largest and most impressive is Cydonia City, which itself is sure to have plenty of points of interest. There’s also a mech factory, and the Mars Rover.
Cydonia
The first and oldest extraplanetary settlement in Stafield, Cydonia is a city that predates even most of the current in-game factions like the Starfield Freestar Collective faction and the Starfield Constellation faction.
Due to Mars’ lack of air, Cydonia is primarily situated underground, with access to the vast networks of tunnels available through a crater. The city is highly industrial in nature, with vast factories, and one of the largest mining operations anywhere in civilised space. This vast supply of raw materials makes Cydonia a location of critical importance to the Starfield United Colonies faction, whose territory includes Mars.

We don’t currently know what points of interest to expect, but given the atmosphere and theme Bethesda are going for with Cydonia, it’s likely there will be some points of interest related to mining, a good tavern or two, and quite a few NPCs who can hand out quests.
Mars Mech Factory
We know even less about this factory than Cydonia, and it’s not impossible that you’ll find the factory as a point of interest within the city itself. Regardless, we know that it is at least close to the city, and that it’s a highly important manufacturing plant for the planet and the United Colonies. Whether you’ll get the chance to ride in any of their products though is pure speculation.
Mars Rover
We only saw the Mars Rover briefly near the end of the Starfield gameplay trailer 2022. It’s unclear as of yet whether it’s an easter egg, or a proper location, but the design clearly resembles its real-life counterpart, so it might be worth a visit either way.
