Does Starfield have cross save and cross progression? If you’re one of the many gamers that have multiple platforms to play on, then this is a question that has undoubtedly crossed your mind at one point.
Now, with the Starfield release date nearly ready to touch down, fans of Bethesda’s interplanetary adventure are even more eager to find out whether they can continue their journey over different gaming systems. Luckily, we’re here to tell you about the game’s cross save and cross progression functionality so you know what to expect before you drop in.
Is there cross save in Starfield?
Yes, Starfield does have cross save and cross progression, meaning you can continue playing on either the PC or Xbox Series X|S. Since the game’s store page includes an Xbox Play Anywhere symbol, this means you’ll be able to pick up where you left off on either platform as long as you purchase the digital version. If you buy a physical edition, however, you will only be able to play it on the Microsoft gaming console.
It’s important to keep in mind that cross save and cross progression can only be used if you purchase the game through the Xbox store. Since Steam and the Game Pass app are two completely different entities, you can only play it on the former if you choose to buy it there. Starfield also isn’t Steam Deck-compatible at the time of writing, so you won’t be able to continue your Settled Systems saga on the go.
With this in mind, we recommend selecting the Xbox version for now since this would give you the flexibility needed to play over different platforms. But if you’re one of the few that aren’t too eager to get their hands on Starfield just yet, you can always wait for Valve to announce its compatibility with the Steam Deck. You can then buy it on their platform so you can play it anywhere you want.
