Overwatch 2 Season 5 is alive and kicking, and with various buffs and nerfs made this season, we wanted to make sure you know who are the current best and worst characters to play in this meta and why. With 37 heroes to choose from, each with their own unique abilities, it can be difficult deciding who to main and when to play each character.

We’ve ranked each hero from S tier to D tier to ensure that you know who is currently a good choice in Overwatch 2, and who is probably someone you should steer clear of ahead of the Overwatch 2 Season 6 release date.

Note that regardless of where we ranked a hero, they can still be a good pick if you know how to play them well. Every hero has their place on the battlefield, but there are a few characters that only shine in specific maps/situations or can be too easily countered, hence, their lower ranking. For example, Torbjorn’s turrets aren’t always what a team needs to push a payload forward. On the contrary, there are some characters that are generally always a good pick and are easier to play, like Soldier 76.

Now that we’ve shown you our Overwatch 2 tier list, let’s break down why we think our S tier heroes deserve their spot.

Here are the best Overwatch 2 tank heroes:

Junker Queen

Junker Queen is able to tank a lot of damage due to her passive ability, Adrenaline Rush, that heals her according to wound damage that she applies to enemies with her other abilities. Essentially, the more Junker Queen kills enemies, the more healing she gets, which works perfectly for her because of her high damage potential. To even further encourage this aggressive play-style, she has the ability Commanding Shout that gives a boost of health and movement speed to her and her teammates.

Junker Queen’s Rampage ultimate is even more aggressive than her previously mentioned abilities. Charging forward, dealing damage and preventing healing on enemies that get hit, makes Rampage extremely powerful in overwhelming an enemy team.

Sigma

Sigma is great at controlling an area. His kit includes a floating shield that he can produce at range, two charged spheres that deal area damage, the ability to knock an enemy down with a clump of debris, and a kinetic grasp that converts incoming damage into health. With all of these abilities working together, Sigma is able to keep enemies at bay and away from his teammates, as well as blocking tank busting abilities like Zenyatta’s Discord Orb.

Sigma’s ultimate, Gravitic Flux, lifts enemies into the air and slams them back down, dealing a large amount of damage to multiple enemies in an area. This massive area-of-effect (AoE) attack gives his team the advantage in capturing points.

Ramattra

We put Ramattra at S tier because of his incredibly reliable moveset. For starters, he can fire through shields, making him a problem for characters like Reinhardt, Brigitte, Orisa, and Sigma who use shields as a key part of their arsenal, as well as punching through D.Va’s defense matrix. On top of this, his pummel ability delivers powerful damage and can kill fairly quickly.

Ramattra’s ultimate is almost overpowered. He enters into his Nemesis Form, which provides a beam of high damage directed at any nearby enemies without him having to do anything besides stand near them. If that didn’t sound scary enough, his ultimate lasts longer the more he uses it against enemies. This ultimate in conjunction with a stun or even his Ravenous Vortex ability that slows enemies, is almost guaranteed to do significant damage to the enemy team.

Soldier 76

Soldier 76 is one of the best heroes you can play in Overwatch 2 because his set of abilities is extremely reliable. His primary fire is a standard assault rifle that can do heavy damage if an enemy is hit consecutively by it. His alternate fire is a high-powered blast of rockets that can finish off enemies or drastically decrease their health. When you combine these two abilities, you can get a lot of kills really quickly. Additionally, his biotic field ability allows him to heal himself up and continue fighting for longer than other damage heroes.

Soldier 76 is also a great choice for new players because he is one of the easiest characters to learn. Anyone who’s played an FPS game before will be familiar with his move-set as he can sprint and shoot his gun in a similar way to games like Call of Duty, Apex Legends, and Fortnite. Oh yeah, and his ultimate is literally an aimbot.

Ashe

Ashe is arguably the best sniper in the game. Her ability to switch between a high-damage sniper rifle and a semi-automatic rifle make her particularly versatile in combat situations. On top of that, her Coach Gun and Dynamite abilities allow her to deal with enemies that get too close to her.

Ashe’s ultimate is also one of the most powerful ultimates in Overwatch 2. She deploys B.O.B., a devastatingly powerful robot that deals consistent damage to any enemies in his line of sight and takes a lot of damage to be brought down. While B.O.B. is active, Ashe is still free to kill enemies on her own, which makes any B.O.B. deployment one that requires an entire team effort to take down.

Junkrat

One of the highest damage-dealers in the game is Junkrat. Equipped with an arsenal full of explosives, Junkrat roams the battlefield wreaking havoc and destruction upon anything that gets in his way. His primary fire is a frag launcher that shoots five grenades that deal massive damage, granting him the ability to acquire multiple kills before even needing to reload. All of this damage is coupled with his large mobility potential through the use of his concussion mine, which he can use to propel himself large distances or damage an enemy. He’s even got a steel trap that stuns enemy heroes in place, guaranteeing they’ll take the damage from any incoming attacks, given they don’t have any shields.

Junkrat’s Riptire ultimate, while fairly easy to destroy, delivers an enormous amount of damage that is, for the most part, an instant kill for any heroes in range. Use his ultimate well and you can very quickly turn the tide of a game.

Hanzo

Out of all of the Overwatch 2 heroes in our S-tier list, Hazo probably has the steepest learning curve, but once you master him, he can be a beast and an immense problem for the enemy team. Hanzo is one of the most agile and mobile characters in the game. Although he is considered a sniper, his bow and arrow is effective at both short and long ranges. To add to this, his wall climb and lunge give him the opportunity to get up close with the enemy team and make his way out as quickly as he showed up.

His sonic arrow is perfect for seeking out where and when to aim and release to secure instant one-shot kills. Sonic arrow is a great ability for close range combat as it can eliminate an enemy quicker than drawing the bow would. The only downside to Hanzo is that his ultimate can be easy to dodge, but if you know what you’re doing, it can be a valuable asset in securing a victory.

Kiriko

Kiriko is a great pick because she provides a lot of healing to her teammates while also dealing decent damage to enemies with her kunai. Her Protection Suzu is an extremely valuable ability because it can remove any negative status effects from her allies. She’s also as agile as Hanzo, being able to climb walls and teleport to teammates in her line of sight.

Kiriko’s ultimate, Kitsune Rush, gives her teammates increased movement and attack speed and reduces cooldown time, which can mean a ton of damage output on the enemy team if her teammates take advantage of it. There’s never really a bad time to use Kitsune Rush, which makes her ultimate one of the best in the game.

Mercy

Mercy is almost always a valid pick in any game of Overwatch 2. Her Caduceus Staff gives consistent healing or a damage boost to a teammate, which can dramatically improve their chances of winning gunfights and staying alive. Even if a member of Mercy’s team does die, she can just resurrect them when the enemy team isn’t paying attention, which happens surprisingly often.

All of her healing is enhanced when Mercy gets her ultimate, Valkyrie. Being able to fly around the map allows Mercy to get a visual on her team and the enemy, and heal anyone who’s in need of it. All of this works together to make Mercy one of the most reliable supports in Overwatch 2.

Ana

Just as regular sniper rifles do heavy damage, Ana’s biotic rifle does heavy healing for her teammates, while also dealing decent damage to enemies. While you do have to be a good shot, if done well, Ana can be a major help in keeping her teammates alive and enemies at bay. She also has a biotic grenade that not only damages enemies, but prevents them from being healed for a duration, granting her teammates an easy kill. This is especially useful as a counter to Junker Queen in the current meta, stopping her healing. In addition, her sleep dart can stop some of the most devastating attacks in an instant.

Ana’s Nano Boost ultimate is perfect for pushing and playing aggressively against the enemy team, as it increases a hero’s damage dealt and simultaneously reduces their damage taken. With a bit of extra strength, some heroes can take down multiple enemies much easier, which makes Ana a well-suited support for most team compositions.
