Although The Joker didn’t win the MVP Award last season (which would have marked his third straight), he’s still a force to be reckoned with and led the Nuggets not only to a Western Conference best record of 53 wins and 29 losses, but also to their first NBA Title. As a result, it is not surprising at all that NBA 2K24 rewarded the star Serbian center with the best overall rating in the game.
Last year, Giannis Antetokounmpo was the best overall rated player with a 97 overall rating. Though we predicted him to have the same rating, Antetokounmpo will in fact be a 96 overall in NBA 2K24 this year. With LeBron James still going strong, NBA 2K24 gave him 96 overall rating as well, same goes for Embiid, Durant, and Curry.
Here’s a look at some analysis on five of the players who made the Top 10 in NBA 2K24:
Nikola Jokić – 98 overall
Many will argue he’s the best player in the NBA right now despite not winning the MVP Award last season, and for those that do believe so, they have every right to feel that way. The five-time All Star and two-time MVP Award Winner nearly averaged a triple-double last season in 69 games played, scoring 24.5 points per game while posting 11.8 rebounds and 9.8 assists as well. At only age 28, Jokić is simply in his prime and deserves to be the best player in NBA 2K24.
Stephen Curry – 96 overall
Viewed as the best shooter in the NBA and possibly in NBA history, Stephen Curry made it back to the Top 10 this year with the same 96 overall rating he had in NBA 2K23. The two-time MVP and four-time NBA Champion proved his greatness once more over the 2022-23 campaign, scoring 29.4 points per game while coming away with a career average in rebounds (6.1). The man continues to age like a fine wine, only getting better with time and NBA 2K24 felt it was only to recognize his greatness by granting him a 96 overall.
Joel Embiid – 96 overall
The 2022-23 MVP Winner was flat-out special last season, leading the league in points scored per game (33.1) while providing a dominant presence when crashing the glass and playing defense. Some fans will still harp on why Jokić should have won the MVP Award last season but Embiid earned the achievement fair and square. And though the 76ers didn’t nearly have the same kind of success in the postseason as the Nuggets did, the 76ers would not have been in the Top 6 in the Eastern Conference had Embiid not performed the way he did. Last year, Embiid was a 96 overall. And though we thought the MVP would be a 97 in NBA 2K24 this year, 2K confirmed that Embiid will be back as a 96 overall.
Luka Dončić – 95 overall
Last season, Dončić highlighted how special of a young talent he continues to grow into, despite only being 24-years-old. In 66 games played, Dončić scored a career high 32.4 points per game while averaging 8.6 rebounds and 8.0 assists. The young Slovenian talent continues to marvel the league in so many ways, and though he isn’t the most athletic NBA athlete, has proved his worth more and more with each season he plays. Though some might feel his rating could be a 96 overall, it’s certainly fitting for Dončić to be a 95 overall in NBA 2K24.
Jimmy Butler – 95 overall
The Miami Heat pulled off the improbable over the postseason in thrilling fashion, and mainly because of their star man Jimmy Butler. Though fans most likely remember his heroics during the playoffs, Butler was also one of the most consistent and reliable threats on the Heat during the regular season as well. In 64 games played, Butler dropped 22.9 points per game on a career-high 53.9% shooting from the field, averaged 5.9 rebounds per game, 5.3 assists, and 1.8 steals (second best in the NBA). Though some might feel like the Heat’s run was a coincidence, it’s hard to go against the reality that they were able to still win despite the odds they faced in every series. And a big reason why was because of Jimmy Butler.
