If those maps sound familiar, that’s because they’re the original Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer maps. However, they’ve been spruced up and given a modern makeover to help boost up MW3’s MP map pool – something that was rumoured by leakers for a while and was later confirmed thanks to an MW3 reveal ARG. Fans were directed to a phone number in the run up to the MW3 reveal event, and were encouraged to message this number to get teases on what’s coming in the new game.
Fans will get to relive the glory in beloved maps like the Estate, Highrise, Favela, Terminal and of course, Rust. If you were hoping for entirely new maps to rain hell down on enemies, fret not as Modern Warfare 3 will also include some brand-new maps – as well, with a twist.
Will Verdansk return in MW3?
While not confirmed, it’s unlikely Verdansk will return in MW3 and Warzone on launch. It was previously revealed that the Call of Duty developers are working on a new map for the mode. Alongside this, elements of the new Warzone map are set to feature in the upcoming Zombies mode set to release with the game in November.
MW3 Battle Maps
As per the announcement, Modern Warfare 3 will launch with three brand-new ‘Battle Maps’ – these are large scale locations, used in the game’s Ground War and Invasion game modes, both of which are returning in the new game. There’s no word on if these new maps have names, but we’ll let you know once we find out.
MW3 War Map
It’s also been confirmed that MW3 will ship with a ‘War Map’ – this is a new large scale environment, built to support the return of War Mode which is making its Modern Warfare debut, after the mode’s previous featuring in 2017’s Call of Duty WW2.
MW3 map news
Leakers previously alleged that MW3 will feature a map voting system. This is a similar feature we’ve seen in previous Call of Duty games that allows players to vote between select maps for the next round.Â
Activision’s plan to make players feel nostalgic ahead of the game’s launch by bringing back some of the older maps from the original MW2 and MW3 games is working! However, players should expect these older maps to look different in MW3 (2023). This is because they will be remastered to fit right into the latest entries in the series.
So that’s what we can tell you for now in regards to MW3 maps. We expect to know more information up until the Modern Warfare 3 release date this November.
