The latest Mortal Kombat game will be current-gen only and not feature on the Xbox One or PS4. The new installment will be arriving later this year on current-gen consoles and, interestingly, the less powerful Nintendo Switch.
We got to see some of what to expect in a bloody trailer that confirmed the game’s launch platforms – and also gave us a taste of the violence we can expect to see in the new game. The platforms themselves were confirmed on the game’s official website, as well as the Twitter bio of the official Mortal Kombat account.

While details are still thin on the ground, there will also be a closed beta period for those who pre-order the game to take place at some point in August 2023. However, only those who pre-order Mortal Kombat 1 on the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 will be able to take part.
While disappointing to last-gen stalwarts, the news of Mortal Kombat 1 ditching the last gen is fairly expected. The visuals of the last couple of games have been impressive – and considering the amount of blood, cartilage and viscera the series is known for – it makes sense that fans will want the game looking as disgustingly good as possible.
