While Genshin Impact puts forth an expansive world that is not only jaw-dropping but extremely fun to explore, combat has always been one of the game’s top priorities. It’s important to point out that even with an uncountable number of permutations, Genshin Impact is still able to maintain a stable yet diverse meta by being a relatively easy game. However, as diverse as the meta is, it’s not as if any team composition can make it into the meta. There are definitely some DPS characters that must not be overlooked when attempting to assemble a top-tier team.

5 Best DPS Characters In Genshin Impact

DPS Characters are the focal point of any team composition, partly because they remain out on the field for the majority of any battle. Of course, they are backed up by supporting characters and talents such as Bennett’s Fantastic Voyage or Xingqiu’s Raincutter; yet, the fact of the matter is that DPS characters are the main source of damage.

Before ranking the top five best DPS characters in Genshin Impact, it’s important to preface that any kind of tier list is widely debatable. In fact, it is a widely accepted fact in the Genshin Impact community that not everyone will agree to a particular ranking.

1. Ayaka (Constellation 6)

Despite the disagreements, the community can agree that Ayaka is one of the best DPS characters in Genshin Impact, if not the best. She is a walking Cryo application that is most in tune with her element. As far as her talents go, even though her Elemental Burst is insane, one mustn’t forget that at constellation 6, the damage of her charged attack increases by almost 300%!

Ayaka’s charged attack is particularly deadly when combo’d with her passive, better known as the Senho state. As opposed to normal sprinting, Ayaka can consume some stamina to dash around the battlefield while cloaked in frost. On top of increased agility, whenever she comes to a stop in her Senho state, she applies frost to both nearby enemies and on her sword for a short duration.

This, coupled with her Constellation 6 (Dance of Suigetsu), make her charged attack a force of reckoning. Her damage output can be further increased by unlocking her first passive talent, Amatsumi Kunitsumi Sanctification, which significantly buffs her elemental skill, Hyouka. Instead of just blooming frost in her vicinity, the skill also buffs her charged attack by 30% more damage for the next 6 seconds!

2. Hu Tao (Constellation 1)

Hu Tao has always been a big part of Genshin Impact’s meta, and we doubt that will be changing anytime soon. Best known for her Nuker build, Hu Tao’s Elemental Burst, Spirit Soother, is amazing at inflicting damage and recovering HP. Moreover, the game rewards players for successfully registering the attack on low HP, as, on less than 50% HP, the damage output and health regeneration are increased manifold.

Aside from her well-known Elemental Burst, Hu Tao’s charged attack in unison with her elemental skill, Guide to Afterlife, also accounts for much of her DPS profile. Although not passive like Ayako’s Senho state, Hu Tao’s Paramita Papilo state converts all her sources of physical damage to Pyro damage, including the normal charged attack.

Furthermore, while the elemental skill is active, Hu Tao’s charged attack is given a special buff known as Blood Bossom, where enemies struck by the attack take chip damage every 4 seconds. This effect can be constantly refreshed with C1 Hu Tao, where she can simply spam the charged attack due to the elimination of its stamina cost.

3. Ganyu (Constellation 6)

Ganyu stands out on an unprecedented scale when it comes to bow characters, particularly because her damage output is comparable with the best of the best while also having a much larger range! She is often considered the bow counterpart of Ayako, as the two dominate the DPS scene from the Cryo roster.

While most characters on this list are best known for their Elemental Bursts, Ganyu is one of the few who are feared for their normal charged attack. As itself, the talent has two different charge levels, where charge level 1 fires a precise, Cryo-infused shot while charge level 2 utilizes frost-blooming frostflake arrows that do great AoE damage and are super effective for crowd control.

Her charged attack can be even more potent with C6 Ganyu, where the stamina requirement is done away with, allowing players to spam arrows to their heart’s content. Furthermore, as icing on the cake (pun intended), the charged attack’s damage can be boosted even further by following up Ganyu’s elemental burst with it for a dangerous skill combo!

4. Raiden Shogun

Although it is quite debatable whether or not Raiden is a DPS or Support character, one simply must recognize the damage output of her Elemental Burst. In order to better understand where this large source of damage comes from, one must understand her unique mechanic, Chakra Desiderata’s Resolve. This is a source of power that Raiden stacks up the more her team members use their elemental bursts.

Once Raiden reaches the max number of Chakra Desiderata’s Resolve (i.e. 60) or less, she can be brought out into the battlefield to execute her elemental burst, Secret Art: Musou Shinsetsu. Upon activation, she will consume all of her Chakra Desiderata’s Resolve stacks and draw out an Electro infused sword known as Musou Isshin. Its Electro damage will scale will the number of Chakra Desiderata’s Resolve stacked.

Aside from her elemental burst, Raiden’s elemental burst should not be forgotten. Although it doesn’t directly benefit her, it does increase the overall DPS of the team by bestowing everyone else with the Eye of Stormy Judgement. This companion can bring about lethal coordinated attacks when paired with Cryo-based talents.

5. Xiao

Although Xiao’s damage out is quite up there, the fact that there is a trade-off between health and damage during his elemental burst (consequently requiring a healer on the team) keeps him away from the top 3. Although this serves as a balancing factor to compensate for his damage, other characters get to walk free for doing as much damage per second, if not more.

However, we must remember that another source of Xiao’s damage is the combo between his normal attack and elemental skill, Lemniscatic Wind Cycling. Despite the relatively complex name, the talent is essentially an Anemo-infused dash that inflicts Anemo damage. Moreover, if done mid-air, Xiao can follow up the dash with a plunge attack, no matter the height, since he doesn’t take fall damage.

All in all, even though Genshin Impact will continue to grow with more and more characters, the meta is speculated to stay stable largely, spearheaded by the DPS characters ranked above. However, if Hoyoverse wanted, they could easily implement buffs and nerfs to make room for more characters in the meta, something that would be a well-deserved breath of fresh air.
