Baldur’s Gate crossplay is coming to the game, but what will it look like? With Baldur’s Gate 3 promising to be one of the biggest games of the year, fans will be wondering whether or not they’ll be able to take the game on with their friends across other platforms.
To get yourself ready for the full launch of the game, make sure to brush up on all of the available Baldur’s Gate 3 races and subraces, and the workings of Baldur’s Gate 3 multiplayer and co-op. Let’s get into finding out is Baldur’s Gate 3 crossplay.
Does Baldur’s Gate 3 have crossplay?
Yes, Baldur’s Gate 3 does have crossplay, but only in the form of cross-progression. Baldur’s Gate 3 is currently available in early access through Steam. With the August release date for PC & Mac now close, players on these platforms will be able to enjoy the benefits of crossplay soon. It hasn’t yet been definitively confirmed that Crossplay features are arriving on full launch, but we do know thanks to a Larian FaQ on the game that the feature is coming.
While not available at the same time as the PC and Mac releases, Baldur’s Gate 3 is also scheduled for a release on PS5 around a month later, and once this happens, crossplay will be available for Playstation fans too.
Cross-progression and crossplay support status
There are limits to the support being given to cross-play Baldur’s Gate 3. Cross-platform progression is the element of crossplay that is fully supported. Basically, you’ll be able to maintain singleplayer save files across different platforms. If you want to pick up a game you were playing on PC and move over to one of your consoles, you’ll be able to do so.
From or after the game’s full launch, players who own the game across multiple platforms will be able to access and progress the same save file from each one, providing much greater flexibility for players to choose how they want to play.
Larian Studios have confirmed though that while cross-progression is supported, crossplay between platforms is not. If it’s a case of launchers, like Steam or GoG, then you’ll be able to play with friends and fellow gamers without any issues. However multiplayer co-op between PS5 players and PC players isn’t going to be available. It’s unclear if this might change in a future update, but at the moment it looks pretty set in stone.
