Can you change your appearance in Baldur’s Gate 3?

There is no way to change your player character’s appearance in Baldur’s Gate after starting the campaign. And while spells like Disguise Self and the Druid’s Wild Shape ability can let you turn into another person or animal respectively, you can’t customize your character.

You can also use the Shapeshift spell to change into any race and gender. It also comes complete with the Baldur’s Gate 3 races’ special perks. These brief transformations grant you a respite from your previous frame. This is your best bet to play as one of the Half-orcs, Elves, or Dragonborn without committing to their appearances.

This spell can be obtained from the Mask of the Shapeshifter. It comes for free with the Digital Deluxe edition of Baldur’s Gate 3. You’ll find this magical mask in your camp’s traveler’s chest. Digital Deluxe edition holders can take advantage of this to their hearts’ content.

Changing your appearance in character creation

Outside of the ‘Edit Appearance’ button at the beginning of the game, there’s no other way to alter character customisation. This includes options like hair colour, eye colour, and facial hair. You can even modify the character’s maturity. These permanent changes will live alongside you in the PC and PlayStation 5 versions of the game.

But you can modify your chosen class with the help of Withers in Baldur’s Gate 3 Dank Crypt. Your initial choices with respect to classes can be changed. This lets you modify various factors that impact both dialogue and combat. It’s a shame that appearance doesn’t benefit from this temporary makeover option.

The character creation is already quite extensive, with 12 classes, 46 subclasses, and 11 unique races to tinker with. The game also has a variety of facial features and appearance options. These let you really get into the details of your character’s looks. But for now, players will have to stick with their customized character. You can also start this epic journey as one of Baldur’s Gate 3 origin characters.

That’s everything you need to know about whether you can change your appearance in Baldur’s Gate 3. We hope that Larian Studios lets you change your appearance with future updates and DLCs.
