With Starfield within touching distance, we had a look back at the game-play deep dive that Bethesda released a few weeks ago. One of our favorite snippets shown was a mecha ship that one of the developers had created in-game, among a host of others including a platypus ship.

This giant mecha is boxy and short, comprised of stacked ship components resembling something between a Gundam and Lego toy. It might not be the prettiest creation possible in Starfield, but there’s something enchanting about its charm and quirks.
Bethesda’s latest game has snapped up everyone’s attention in recent weeks, with leaks and early access taking the center stage of late. However, we couldn’t think about anything but the marvelous in-game creations that Starfield’s going to offer up. When Tears of the Kingdom launched earlier this year, the sandbox nature of the game encouraged players to build their own Gundam’s and even their own phallic objects. We’re nothing but excited to see what inventive creations explorers of Bethesda’s new game will come up with.
Fallout 4 introduced a sandbox element to the franchise, and it seems as though Starfield is going to take this even further with the implementation of custom ships. With plenty of different modular parts – it’s no doubt that no two ships will look, perform or even feel the same.

Starfield producer Jamie Mallory said that their “favorite ways of customizing ships is … I make them look like animals.” Following this, they unveiled the HMS Platypus, which unexpectedly, looks like a platypus!

The creative shipbuilding element of Starfield is one of the features that we’re most looking forward to, reminiscent of Kerbal Space Program and other sci-fi sandbox games, and it’s definitely a step in the right direction for Bethesda, not that there was much to complain about with their previous games, mind you.
Starfield is releasing in the coming weeks, so make sure to keep your eyes peeled for more content. If you’re really interested in satisfying your mecha itch, you might be interested in reading more about Armored Core 6 instead.
